Laura grooming a small dog at the Pretty Paws salon in Edinburgh
About the salon

Laura's salon. Built around your dog, not the schedule.

Pretty Paws is a small, independent grooming salon in Edinburgh, run from start to finish by Laura. Every appointment is a single dog — no production line, no waiting in a back room with five strangers, no rushed finish because the next four are already booked in.

Laura grew up around dogs and trained as a groomer because she wanted to do it the way she'd want it done for her own. Calm pace. Patient hands. A proper conversation about what your dog likes, what they don't, and what you're hoping the cut will look like. The 100 five-star reviews are the proof — but really, the regulars who've been coming since day one are the louder signal.

One dog at a time
No noisy multi-station setup. Just your dog, in a calm room, with a kettle on.
Cage-free where possible
Dogs only crate-rest if it's safer for them. Otherwise, they're with Laura the whole time.
Breed-appropriate cuts
Cockapoo, Westie, Schnauzer, Spaniel, Doodle — proper coat-type knowledge, not a one-size finish.
Nervous & senior welcome
First-time pups, anxious rescues, older dogs — extra time built in, no rush.

The services

Six ways Laura makes your dog feel like a regular.

considered, never rushed

Pricing is breed and coat-condition dependent — a full quote in writing before any appointment. No surprises.

i

Full Groom

Wash, dry, breed-cut & finish

The signature service — bath, blow-dry, full body cut to your breed standard (or however you like it), nails, ears, hygiene trim, scented finish. Allow 2–3 hours.

  • Coat-appropriate shampoo
  • Hand-finished scissor work
  • Pretty Paws bow / bandana
ii

Bath & Brush

Between-grooms refresh

For dogs whose cut is still holding shape but who need a proper deep wash, full blow-out, brush-through and a tidy of the eyes, paws and bum. They go home soft, clean and smelling lovely.

  • Two-shampoo deep clean
  • Slicker & comb finish
  • Ears & eyes wiped clean
iii

Nail Trim & Hygiene

Quick visit · 15–20 min

Nail clip and file, paw-pad tidy, sanitary trim around the rear and belly, and a quick ear clean. Ideal for between-groom maintenance or for dogs with shorter coats.

  • Quiet clipper or scissor-file option
  • Pad-fluff trim
  • No drop-off needed
iv

Hand Stripping

Wire-coated breeds · proper finish

For Schnauzers, terriers, spaniels and other wire-coated breeds. Stripping by hand keeps the coat texture, colour and weather-resistance intact — clipping, by contrast, dulls the coat over time.

  • Coat condition preserved
  • Rolling-strip schedule advice
  • Slow, patient sessions
v

Puppy's First Groom

From 16 weeks · gentle introduction

A short, soft first session: meet the salon, the dryer, the table, the clippers — at low speed and low pressure. The cut is secondary; the goal is for them to leave thinking grooming is fun. Most go home wagging.

  • Treats & breaks built in
  • 60–90 minute session
  • First-groom keepsake photo
vi

Senior & Nervous Dogs

Slow pace · extra breaks · no pressure

For dogs who find grooming hard — older joints, rescue trauma, sound sensitivity, sight loss. Sessions are split into shorter chunks with full rest in between. Some dogs need two visits to finish a single groom — and that's fine.

  • Quiet dryer & low-noise clippers
  • Split-session option
  • Vet-led care plan if needed

Laura has done our cockapoo since he was 5 months old. He's now 4. He sprints into the salon. Says everything.

First groomer who's hand-stripped our schnauzer properly. Coat's totally different now. So patient with him too.

Our rescue spaniel was terrified of being groomed. Laura took it slow over three short visits. She's a totally different dog now.

Honestly nicer than my own hair salon. Calm, clean, and Bonnie comes home looking unreal every single time.

We've moved across Edinburgh twice and still drive over to Laura. There's a reason she has 100 five-star reviews — every appointment feels like the first one. She remembers Margot's quirks better than I do.

Things people ask

A few honest answers.

straight talk, no fuss
i. My dog has never been groomed before — what should we expect?

For a first-time visit Laura will keep it short and gentle — meeting the room, the dryer, the table — then a soft tidy. The aim is for your dog to leave thinking grooming is a nice thing, not a scary one. Some dogs nail it on visit one. Some take three. Either way, that's fine.

ii. Do you need vaccinations?

Yes — up-to-date primary vaccinations, please. For puppies, that means we can usually start two weeks after their second jab (around 16 weeks old). Bring a quick photo of the vaccine card on your phone for the first visit.

iii. Can you do a specific breed cut from a photo?

Yes — please bring a photo. Laura will have a proper look at your dog's coat condition, length, and breed type, and tell you honestly whether the photo is achievable in a single visit. If it isn't (heavy matting, wrong coat phase), she'll give you a step-by-step plan to get there.

iv. How long will my dog be at the salon?

A full groom is typically 2–3 hours. Bath & brush is around 90 minutes. Nail trims 15–20 minutes. Because Laura works one dog at a time, your slot is your slot — there's no waiting in a back room while three other dogs go first.

v. How do I get a slot? Are you taking new dogs?

Yes — Pretty Paws is currently taking on a small number of new dogs. Best route is the form below or an Instagram DM. Laura will reply with available slots and a written quote based on your dog's breed and coat. Repeat clients are scheduled at the end of each appointment.

vi. How much does a groom cost?

Pricing depends on breed, size, and coat condition — a Westie in good condition is a very different job to a heavily matted doodle. Laura will always send a written quote before booking, so there are no awkward surprises at the end. Most full grooms in Edinburgh sit in the £45–£90 range.

Where we are

An Edinburgh salon for Edinburgh dogs.

Most of Pretty Paws' regulars walk in from a few minutes away — Stockbridge, New Town, Bruntsfield, Marchmont. Plenty drive across town from the suburbs because, frankly, finding a calm one-dog-at-a-time groomer in Edinburgh isn't as easy as it should be.
